Environmental Awards

The Environmental Awards aim to revitalize environmental stewardship in Mauritius by recognizing and promoting exemplary sustainable practices across various sectors, encouraging broader adoption to achieve a cleaner, greener, and safer nation.

The Ministry of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change is actively collaborating with non-state actors to foster environmental stewardship among citizens, industries, and other stakeholders. Despite mixed results from these efforts, there is a clear need to revamp environmental policies and strategies. To effectively change mindsets and promote ecological transitions, establishing partnerships with various groups and organizations is essential.

The Environmental Awards serve as a key mechanism to promote such partnerships by recognizing and highlighting exemplary environmental practices by local institutions. This initiative encourages institutions across various sectors—including manufacturing, retail, media, NGOs, waste management, banking, finance, tourism, local authorities, public institutions, transport, and education—to adopt sustainable practices that reduce carbon footprints, optimize resource use, and minimize environmental nuisances.

The primary goal of these awards is to acknowledge and reward the best environmental initiatives, thereby motivating wider adoption of these practices for a cleaner, greener, and safer Mauritius.
