FAO Global Forest Resources Assessment (FRA)
![]() | FAO Global Forest Resources Assessment (FRA) provides essential information for understanding the extent of forest resources, their condition, management and uses. Since 1946, the FAO has monitored global forests through the Global Forest Resources Assessments (FRA), presenting a detailed view of forest changes to inform policy and investment. Over the past 70 years, public interest and the breadth of these assessments have grown, shifting towards a holistic approach to sustainable forest management. Initially led by the FAO with minimal country input, the approach has evolved since the 1980s into a more collaborative process involving significant country participation in data collection and analysis. This includes reclassification, estimation, and forecasting using country data, expert judgment, remote sensing, and statistical modeling. These assessments, enhanced to track trends in forest areas and stocks, are now published every five years starting from FRA 1990. Click HERE for latest Mauritius Report
