Greening the Agricultural Sector through capacity development on pesticide residue testing

PROJECT START DATE:  01/03/2021

PROJECT END DATE: 30/06/2022

Pesticide use in Mauritian agriculture, while boosting food production, poses risks to farmers, the environment, and consumers due to inefficient and excessive use. Pesticides contaminate agricultural products, soil, and water bodies, threatening both human health and biodiversity. The project's goal is to assess the impact of pesticides on the agricultural sector by creating a framework for pesticide residue testing in water. This initiative aims to improve water quality and promote sustainable agriculture. It seeks to regulate pesticide use, shift towards organic alternatives, and ensure safer food production while reducing environmental and health risks associated with pesticide contamination.
