MCCI Roadmap for a Plastic Waste Free Mauritius 

Launched on March 28, 2022.

This project targets six categories of waste plastic, including waste plastic packaging and microplastics. The goal is to achieve a Waste Plastic-Free Mauritius by 2030.

The primary goal of the MCCI Roadmap for a Waste Plastic Free Mauritius was to evaluate the effects of various plastic waste management legislations on industrial and commercial activities. The report highlights the private sector's commitment to effective plastic waste management and the transition towards a circular economy. It proposes a clear roadmap with realistic timelines and cost implications, and assesses the impact on food safety and consumers.

Enhancing Food Safety, Food Waste Reduction and Food Innovation

To reduce and recover food losses/ food waste to improve food security (led by Assoc Prof Daya Goburdhun and a team comprising of Dr Arvind Ruggoo, Dr Deena Ramful Baboolall and Dr Roshini Brizmohun Gopaul). The trainee project assistant is Miss Lakshaya Beeharee, as Food Science graduate.
A compilation of 45 recipes by 14 passionate individuals to valorise leftover foods and imperfect fruits and vegetables, has been made by the team. It will be launched on the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste -29 September and is made available, free of charge to everyone.
