Circular Economy

The Circular Economy (CE) embodies a comprehensive strategy for advancing socio-economic prosperity by optimizing resource efficiency and advocating sustainable production and consumption methods. It seeks to foster economic growth by extending the lifespan of products, materials, and resources within the economy, consequently mitigating the societal and environmental impacts associated with the linear economic model.

At the 2022 United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA 5.2), the resolution on “Enhancing Circular Economy” was adopted, emphasizing the critical need to hasten a fundamental shift in our management of natural resources, as well as in our consumption and production patterns.

Awareness of the circular economy (CE) concept in Mauritius is still in its early stages, with a predominant focus on the recycling aspect of the circular economy framework.
